Update on my activities
Well, I received a couple of comments today (or at least I finally saw them) on this blog. I am thrilled that a couple of people out there commented on my design work and downloaded (I assume) a couple of files. The past few months have seen me in and out of the hospital (I’m ok) and a bunch of extra design work, so I haven’t had time to post. In fact, I was thinking about canceling this blog all together. I suppose I’ll keep going and begin writing as well as posting free stuff. I have a lot of information stored in my brain – organizing that info and communicating it is another matter entirely. Please keep stopping by and thanks for your comments!

Graphic Design for Idiots!
This is a guide to design and to designers for the typical client (or layperson who knows nothing about design). Please, if you are the layperson I speak of, don’t take offense to the title of this post. I don’t think you are an idiot, I just had to grab your attention, since what I’m going to explain is definitely to your benefit and worth your while. To start, I don’t want you to think of designers as artists. [Read more →]

Awesomely Useful Online Typography Tools
Henry Jones posted a list of online typography tools on Web Design Ledger’s blog. I have to say that it was not what I expected – it was much, much more. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve needed a pixel to em converter, a converter that renders CSS code, an online library of fonts to use in place of boring system fonts, etc. This was a refreshing experience and I’m glad that I found it. You will definitely want to bookmark most, if not all, of these.

The Simplicity of Design
I have always been fascinated by those artists who can make something so simple and turn it into something quite profound. For example, in the world of music, Iron Butterfly’s “Inna Gadda Vita” could be considered a symphony of rock and roll, complete with a 10 minute drum solo. [Read more →]
